The “Cantando Por La Vida” concert develops from the desire to create a fund for providing assistance to people with serious medical conditions in order for them to pay for special treatments and other associated indirect costs not otherwise covered by the government health plan or its catastrophic division, and also to give them a vehicle to provide for their families in times of need. The idea was inspired by the personal circumstances of Jose Antonio “Josean” Rivera, founder and former lead singer of one of the pioneer Puerto Rican Spanish Rock bands, La Mancha del Jardín, and his current battle with leukemia.

You can help!

Bone Marrow Drive - On any given day, more than 6,000 men, women and children are searching the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry for a life-saving donor. Even with a registry of more than 30,000 in Puerto Rico alone, there are many patients waiting and hoping, unable to find a match. Donors with diverse racial or ethnic backgrounds are especially needed due to genetic diversity. We know that someone in our community could be the best match for one of those patients.

During the concert there will be an official NMDP booth for registering potential donors. Recruitment Specialist Limaris Delgado and NMDP Director Heather Helm have confirmed attendance and will host the booth with the help of other volunteers from the program. In order to encourage participation in the drive, a $3 discount from the original ticket price of $15 will be offered.

The Foundation...

The “Cantando Por La Vida” foundation was created to attend to this need. It is a non-profit organization that aims to provide donations and services to patients with serious medical conditions, or donations to other non-profit organizations for these to render their services. We intend to create awareness for the need of alternative types of funding that capture the economical burden that these serious conditions place upon patients and their families, and the extreme situations they have to endure to provide for them. We also propose to promote the development of programs that help these patients gain access to and afford the best treatments available, including drugs under clinical development.
